What difference does 1% of your income make to you? Very little. And yet, if accumulated, what difference could everybody's 1% make?Ok, so its not my idea but my friends', I'm just publicising it. The concept is that everyone contributes 1% of their salary (after tax) towards the organisation who will then pool all the monies received and pass it on to 3 charities, as chosen by the members. Choosing a small number of charities allows the org to have a better relationship and pay for specific needs.
So why do this instead of making your own direct contribution? Well:
- its hassle free because you make one direct debit to the organisation and so you don't need to manage it yourself
- the money gets pooled together so it makes more of an impact on the recipient
- you may not know many charities and other members can bring to light what else exists out there
- you will get updates on what the money is actually doing whereas this can't be tracked with smaller donations.
If this sounds like a good idea, check out the website: One Percent Scheme
Your views on how to improve things would be appreciated.
Thanks
